How to use it

  1. Paste your script.
  2. Pick the speaking pace.
  3. See the running time, and whether it fits the length you want.
  4. Cut the lines that don't earn their seconds.

How many words fit in a short video?

At a natural pace of about 150 words a minute (2.5 words a second), 30 seconds holds about 75 words and 60 seconds about 150. Leave a second or two at the end for the call to action to land.

Our Editor writes voiceovers at the same pace, so a script that fits here fits there.

How long should a short video be?

As long as the idea needs, and no longer. Most single-idea videos land between 15 and 45 seconds. Watch your retention graph: if viewers leave in the middle, cut the middle.
